Fabulous. Tasted just like the buffet's. I got to thinking after trying these. We've been paying good money to the buffett only to discover that they are feeding us cheap biscuits lol! Hmmm. Oh well now I can make at them home. Thanks

Not only did they go up quickly but they tasted a lot better than some of the donuts we've bought at well-known donut shops. Hot from the fryer and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar - yummy!

Made for Feb., 2008 Bevy Tag. This took me back to when I was a little girl and my father used to make these for us for a special treat. I dipped half in powdered sugar and half in a sugar/cinnamon mix. Thanks, Auntie, for another great recipe and for the wonderful trip down memory lane.

The kids had no idea that you can make doughnuts at home, and were amazed that I did it! They looked perfect, and tasty. I made them the night before, and let them cool while we were sleeping. I did notice that they tasted more like a bicuit than a doughnut. I used the Grands "Extra Rich". But I am going to keep trying with different brands until I get the perfect one. Does anyone have a suggestion on what brand to buy?

So bad but OH SO GOOD!!! I used both powdered sugar and granulated sugar and thanks to another review did not use butter-flavored biscuits I used the Grand’s Home-style buttermilk. For the hole in the biscuits I used a shot glass moistened in warm water and made donut holes out of the cut outs.

I better start by saying that I used "butter flavor" biscuts and perhaps "plain" would have mattered...I don't know. It doesn't matter how much powdered sugar I covered these with, they didn't taste anything like a doughnut. They tasted like a sweet buttered biscuit. Don't get me wrong...nothing wrong with a sweet buttered biscuit...but the doughnut shape confused our brains and invited disappointment. One other thing...I RARELY fry anything, so maybe if you're one of those families that always has the deep fryer out, these would be nice once in awhile, but for me it was a waste of an entire bottle of vegetable oil for just 10 "doughnuts". Incidentally, I threw 6 out of 10 of them away as we didn't scarf them down like I thought we would and they don't 'keep' very well. Gosh I'm sorry. I really wanted us to like this one.

My mom has made these several times for my brothers and myself. It doesn't take long, and there are never leftovers. They taste great!

My mom used to make these for us for breakfast at our house. We would dip them in sweetened condensed milk... YUM! It was our Thai version of a beignet I suppose... I miss them! Thanks for bringing back some great childhood memories by posting this in the 'simple recipes you are almost embarrassed to post'. I think I will go make a batch now!!!

My family loved these, easy and fast, I used buttermilk biscuits (large size) and powdered sugar. I used a deep sauce pan with canola oil. Cut each biscuit in quarters came out perfect. Took about 15 min total from start to finish - the item that took the most time was getting the oil hot.

My son loves doughnuts so when I came across this recipe so simple and easy I decided to make them at home. He loved them. I used the little refrigerated biscuits and rolled them in sugar and cinammon. They tasted just like the little mini doughnuts I ate as a kid at the state fair. Goodbye dunkin doughnuts!! Thanks for posting this one.

My 7 year old son loves to help me make this recipe (I do the deep frying. He punches the holes in the biscuits). We've tried several variations and have settled on lightly coating the biscuit dough in sugar before frying then rolling them in sugar again afterwards. Fun and tasty. Thanks for sharing.

This is exactly the way I [vaguely] remember Mom doing it! Tonight at dinner when I opened what I thought were layered biscuits I discovered they were in fact regular biscuits and I had flashbacks to my childhood and my Mom making 'home-made' donuts- so after dinner I checked the 'Zaar and sure enough this was the first one to pop up! I had the small cans of rolls- used my apple corer to make holes.. and used an 8" fry pan 2/3 full of oil. (I used Safflower Oil) I heated the oil on high with my gas stove-- and ran a temperature "test" with one of the donut holes. Med-Med-Hi worked best for me once the oil was hot. They surprised me how quick they cook, and we "tossed" (rubbed in bowl) with cinnamon sugar. The result was yummy and a great bribery for my 6 & 8 year olds. At dinner it was "Finish your dinner if you want to make donuts." Then after making the donuts it was "Get your jammies on if you want to EAT any donuts!" It has never been so easy to get the kids through dinner and ready for bed!

These were easy and my kids really enjoyed them! I added cinnamon sugar and they were great. Next time, I will try powdered sugar. Thanks!

I love making these! I use the top the oil container to punch a hole in the dough, that way i get a perfect center and munchin. It's like two doughnuts in one!

I really questioned how well this recipe would turn out using canned biscuits but these were an awesome treat. Not a Krispy Kreme but a wonderful treat indeed. I used powdered sugar with cinnamon and my family of eight all loved them.

Thanks :) You're right, this is a great donut recipe to use with "Grow Your Own MAGIC Donuts" (Grow Your Own Magic Doughnuts - Donuts), as long as the kids really are sound asleep, lol. We've made donuts using both biscuits and thawed roll dough - it's fun to put the sugar in a bag & shake, shake, shake your donuts!

Excellent! This is the first time I actually have made doughnuts. I had a bar of Hershey's milk chocolate ( left over from Halloween). I broke off one small square, flatened out the biscuit dough, then fold the dough over the square of chocolate and pinched the ends. 2 minutes is all you need in terms of cooking time. Rolling it in the sugar after the doughnut is blotted is a MUST. I had a bad day, but making these tonight made me feel good! :-)
