This one was complicated to rate: as a Krispy Kreme Copycat, it gets 3 stars due to the fact that these are much heavier than Krispy Kremes and not anywhere as sweet. As a doughnut recipe, this would get 4 stars for ease of preparation, tastiness and variability. Overall, was pretty tasty, but like DH said, "These taste more like sopapilla's than doughnuts". Better after they'd sat for a while and soaked in the glaze. Thanks for posting!

Oh man! If these could be more than 5 stars - I would give them a 10! They are too die for! :) DH and kids will come home to a tasty treat today! I didn't make holes in the doughnuts - personal preference - and everything cooked through. These are my new favorite doughnut recipe to make - and believe me - they will be made often! All ingredients I keep on hand. The only thing I did differently was use shortening instead of canola oil - as I was out of that. I also omitted the chocolate frosting and kept the original sugar glaze. That by itself was perfect! Thank you again for such a wonderful recipe! :)

The donuts created by this recipe were divine. I have been trying to make donuts well for three years and have tried hundreds of recipes, and these are by far the best. I highly recommend them.

I'm a die hard Krispy Kreme fan. I find this recipe best for people where there is no restaurant because I can still can the "Hot and Now" sign.

The doughnuts really were good. I made some changes though. Instead of milk I used buttermilk to tenderize the dough and keep the doughnut softer inside. It worked just as I figured it would since I do this with cakes. I also added fresh grated nutmeg as well as some cinnamon to the dough. Used some spiced rum in the glaze. Some of the doughnuts I filled with a cream filling (marshmallow fluff, powdered sugar, heavy cream, butter and rum which was beaten together) great taste almost like a cream puff.

I can't make this exact recipe, because my family has celiac disease and can't eat wheat flour. My gluten-free version was great though! A suggestion for those who found this recipe too heavy: when adapting traditional recipes for gluten-free cooking, I always DOUBLE the yeast and baking powder to lighten the texture. Increasing the yeast in this recipe should lighten them up nicely.

These were very good and got rave reviews from family. Not quite like Krispy Kreme, but good. I will definately be making these again. Next I will make some without holes and fill some with lemon and some with raspberry. Thank you.

The donuts were very heavy and not light as real Krispy Kreme. Very disappointed. Followed exact recipe but never got the result as expected. Dough did not rise as expected.

These turned out great! It made about 36 doughnuts and holes with my 2.5 inch cutter. I ran out of glaze before I finished, but I dusted some with powdered sugar and some with cinnamon sugar and it worked out just fine. I skipped the chocolate frosting out of laziness, but will try it next time. We live in England, a long way from the nearest Krispy Kreme shop, but these really fill the bill!

These are awesome! I saw this recipe on another site and this is the one we make a LOT! I've even made jelly doughnuts with them, too!

This was the first time I ever tried to make donuts and this recipe is very easy. My son helped me with it and he loves them. I am not a big donut fan, but thought it would be a fun activity to do with him and I was right. I don't like Krispy Kreme, but these are not as sweet and the texture is very similar. We used cinnamon sugar instead of the glaze and that is probably one reason they were not as sweet. Like I said, my son loves them and that is all that matters. Thank you for sharing!

Wonderful recipe. Donuts were good, glaze was also good... a must try. I think you can halve the glaze recipe. Thank you for posting.

This recipe is by far the best doughnut recipe I have made. I have tried several in my past, none came out as nice as these. I agree that they are a bit heavier than Krispy Cremes but they are still as good. My DH came home and lit right into the batch and said Humm... Good doughnuts! Thanks for sharing your recipe!

I had never made donuts before but really wanted to find a duplicate of Krispy Kreme's. I tried this. They are a tad bit heavier than Krispy Kreme but make the absolute VERY BEST homemade donut you could ever hope to. I have made them several times since.

These donuts had the same moistness, had the same texture and even smelled like Krispy Kreme but did not exactly taste like Krispy Kremes nevertheless they were still a good donuts.
